Teams Permissions

Teams App Permissions

What can Compass do in Teams?

Compass requests only the permissions it needs to operate. Here's what the app can do:

Receive messages Read messages where Compass is mentioned or messaged directly

Send messages Reply to questions with data analysis results, visualizations, and follow-up suggestions

Send files Share CSV exports when you request data downloads (via Teams file consent)

Show adaptive cards Display interactive cards with progress updates, feedback buttons, and links

Conversation scopes

Compass can operate in three Teams conversation scopes:

ScopeDescription
ChannelA standard Teams channel. Messages are visible to all channel members.
Group chatA group conversation. Messages are visible to all participants.
PersonalA 1:1 chat with Compass. Only you can see your messages and responses.

Each scope is configured independently — you control which data connections are available in each channel or chat.

Data access

Compass connects to your data warehouse with read-only access. It cannot modify, insert, or delete data. See Security Best Practices for details on configuring read-only service accounts.

Identity

Compass identifies users by their Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) identity. If a user has both Slack and Teams access with the same email address, Compass automatically links their accounts so context and preferences are shared.
