CSV Uploads

Upload CSV files directly to Compass for quick analysis without connecting to a data warehouse.

Setup Instructions

  • Prepare your CSV file with headers in the first row
  • Upload directly through the Compass data source interface
  • Compass will automatically detect column types

Supported Formats

  • Standard CSV files with comma delimiters
  • Files with headers in the first row
  • UTF-8 encoded text

Uploading to Compass

  1. Go to dagstercompass.com/login (opens in a new tab) or type !admin in your Compass Slack channel
  2. Click Add Connection → CSV Upload
  3. Upload your CSV file
  4. Compass automatically detects column names and types
  5. Review the preview and click Save to complete setup

Best Practices

  • Include descriptive column headers
  • Use consistent date formats (ISO 8601 recommended)
  • Remove unnecessary columns before uploading

Limitations

  • CSV files are stored in Compass infrastructure (see Security)
  • Large files may take longer to process
  • Updates require re-uploading the entire file
  • CSV uploads: 100 MB recommended maximum
  • CSV exports: 1,000 rows and 5 MB maximum
